Why Progressive Muscle Relaxation Exercise?

  1. When we are under stress for a long time, we contract our muscles unconsciously. The principle of progressive muscle relaxation exercise is to achieve a relaxation state through relaxing our muscles. With training, we become more familiarized with the sense of relaxation so that we can voluntarily induce this sensation in the face of a stressor.

  2. To relax our muscle, we have to:

    1. recognize the different sensations of contracting and relaxing the muscles
    2. contract and relax different muscle groups progressively

  3. It takes time to master the skills of progressive muscle relaxation exercise. All you need is regular practice. Practise for 15 to 20 minutes once or twice a day. Gradually you will experience the benefits of the relaxation exercise.

Our Video and the Progressive Muscle Relaxation Exercise

  • Our video is a demonstration of the progressive muscle relaxation exercise that demonstrates the contracting and relaxing of several muscle groups once. You need to repeat the contracting and relaxing of a muscle group at least three times when you practise so as to help you master the skill.

Important Points to Note

  1. Provide enough space and a chair with good support for the body.
  2. People with injury are not recommended for this exercise. Stop immediately if you do not feel well during the exercise.
