Episode 8 Computer Games and Child Development

How does excessive video gaming affect child development?

Excessive use of electronic screen products can have negative impacts on children’s brain functioning. Studies showed that pre-schoolers who spent more time on electronic screen products, are more likely to have behavioural and academic problems in school.

Therefore, parents should help their children to reduce screen-time. Video gaming is one of teens’ favorite online activities. Some of them really enjoy playing video games. However, prolonged use or even being addicted to video gaming may be harmful to physical health and daily functioning.

E-sport is a burgeoning activity. Game players should be careful not to get addicted to video games or e-sport. Otherwise, it has negative effects on physical and mental health, family relations and daily activities.
